How do I choose the right emitter flow rate, the correct emitter spacing and the appropriate row spacing for my landscape?

Different soils yield different "wetting" patterns. To obtain proper coverage you need to consider your soil type.

Sandy soil does not allow the water to spread out very far from the emitter. Conversely, clay soil is "tight" and water will spread further away from each emitter.

Example: For sandy soil, we typically suggest using 0.9 gph emitters spaced every 12 inches on the tubing. Install the tubing in rows of 12 inches apart for proper coverage. Clay soils can use a lower flow rate (0.6 gph) and increased (18 inch) emitter spacing. Likewise you should increase your row spacing to 18 inches to allow for the greater diameter of coverage.

Do I need to regulate drip zones?

Drip zones need regulation because the working pressure of a drip zone is lower than any other type of system. Hunter offers two options for pressure regulation – a 25 PSI and 40 PSI version. The 25 PSI is suited for point source systems using individual emitters, any type of system that is not pressure compensating, or systems using small supply tubing. The 40 PSI system is aimed at pressure compensating systems like Hunter's PLD inline emitter tubing. PLD emitters compensate for pressure delivered from 15 to 50 PSI. The 40 PSI regulator reduces the pressure to something the emitters can handle, ensuring long term performance.

What is blank PLD used for?

Blank Hunter PLD is used to interconnect sections that contain emitters, blank also means solid. The blank PLD can also be used to pass under driveways, sidewalks and other areas that do not require irrigation.

Does Hunter manufacture reclaimed (purple) drip tubing?

Yes, Hunter makes purple drip tubing for reclaimed water applications, it is specified as R=reclaimed.

What are the different flow rates available in Hunter PLD drip tubing?

Hunter PLD flow rates include: 0.4, 0.6, and 1.0 GPH.

Does Hunter make blow off valves or pressure release valves for PLD?

Yes, Hunter manufactures threaded air/vacuum relief valves for the PLD drip line. When air accumulates at the high point of a system the air relief valve allows air to escape until a preset pressure is reached.

What PLD roll lengths are available from Hunter?

Hunter PLD comes in rolls of 100', 250' and 1000'.

 

What Hunter PLD fittings work with other drip tubing?

Hunter tubing diameter is compatible with all standard 17mm fittings.

What is the largest Drip Zone Kit Hunter manufactures?

The 1 ½" ICZ-151 is the largest kit Hunter manufactures.
