What is a smart controller?
Simply stated, a smart irrigation controller has built-in water saving features including a sensor to adjust to the optimal run time based on the local weather conditions. Smart controllers help to provide a healthy, beautiful landscape while reducing water use. This not only saves water, but also reduces costs for the homeowner.
Hunter product lineup of Smart Controllers
All Hunter AC powered controllers can be converted to a smart controller by simply adding a Hunter Solar Sync . Hunter controllers paired with Solar Sync have been independently proven to save water and are approved
X-Core smart residential systems
Pro-C commercial residential systems
I-Core powerful commercial control
ACC high-end commercial control
approved by EPA
The EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) has independently tested all Hunter AC controllers and certified them as WaterSense Smart Watering Controllers. Hunter is the first irrigation manufacturer to receive approval on such a wide array of smart controllers under the EPA's strict testing guidelines. Previously installed controllers with Solar Sync compatibility can be easily converted to meet WaterSense requirements simply by adding the Solar Sync.
The Technology Behind Smart
Controllers with Solar Sync
The Solar Sync ET sensor is an advanced weather sensor that calculates evapotranspiration (ET) and adjusts Hunter controllers daily based on local weather conditions. Solar Sync measures solar radiation and temperature, and uses ET to determine the correct seasonal adjustment percentage value to send to the controller. The controller then uses its programmed
run time and Solar Sync's seasonal adjustment value to modify the irrigation run time for that day. In addition, the Solar Sync ET sensor includes the features of Hunter's popular Rain-Clik ™ and Freeze-Clik ® sensors providing quick response in shutting down your irrigation system during raining and/or freezing conditions.
Smart Irrigation starts with proper Design and Installation
A smart controller is part of a properly designed, installed, operated, and maintained automatic irrigation system. The controller is responsible for activating each valve and for the amount of water applied to the landscape.
It is important that an irrigation professional installs a smart controller to ensure it is set up properly for the water requirements of the landscape.
