FAQs

No, PLD should not be used under turf because of the likelihood of root intrusion. PLD can be buried up to 6 inches (15cm) under grade for other plant material. The most common installation is on grade but under mulch.

Hunter now manufactures PLD-ESD and Eco-Mat for subsurface applications. PLD-ESD and Eco-Mat has 16mm and 17mm models available with 12"emitter spacing and a .6 GPM emitter.

So why not just use naked drip tubing after all it's much cheaper? There are two significant issues that need to be addressed:

  • Root Intrusion-Turf roots can be be very aggressive finding water sources and will eventually clog the emitters.
  • Water distribution-The ability for water to move laterally through the soil is limited and can vary greatly depending on the capillary abilities of the different soils.
