At Hunter, our core values are customer satisfaction, innovation, family and citizenship. Part of being a good corporate citizen involves doing business in a sustainable way. Because our business and products are dependent on water and electricity to create beneficial outdoor spaces, efficient resource use is fundamental to our success. While externally, this is evident in our products, sustainability has also always been a big part of who we are internally as well. This culture shows up in our manufacturing practices, product design, internal programs, and support for our community.
As this report is published, we are beginning a campus remodel that will consolidate our engineering operations into one building. This change will improve collaboration and help us innovate. This also provides us the opportunity to retrofit this building with the latest sustainable building practices like daylight harvesting and energy efficient lighting. These changes, along with other improvements, will prospectively qualify the building for LEED certification. This project will also create a new 147kW solar power covered parking lot that will generate 232,000 kWh annually, and have electric vehicle charging stations.
This first Corporate Social Responsibility report was driven by the Hunter Sustainability Action Group, a grassroots, volunteer initiative to collect and share information and help us remain accountable to our values. Management enthusiastically supported the effort and the result highlights many of our successes so far, and also serves as a baseline to work toward measurable improvement. We are motivated to create innovative solutions to the challenges presented in this report.
