Solar Sync - Seasonal Adjustment too High or Low

If the Solar Sync Seasonal Adjustment is too high or too low you may need to change the Water Adjustment feature on your controller or Solar Sync Module on older models. This will allow you to fine-tune your station Run Times to allow for more watering or less watering.

  • For less water, decrease the value on the Water Adjustment scale (1-10 scale, default setting is 5). If you minimize the scale to 1 and still require decreased Seasonal Adjustment, move up to the next higher Region (from 2 to 3, for example).
  • For more water, increase the value on the Water Adjustment scale. If the scale is maximized to 10 and still the system requires more water you may want to move the region to the next cooler Region (from 3 to 2, for example).

NOTE: If an individual zone is “wetter” or “drier” than the rest of the system, simply increase or decrease the amount of run time on the controller.

The instructions below are for changing these settings on controllers with the Solar Sync on the dial position and older units that use the Solar Sync module (e.g; PC-300, ICC, etc.).

Changing Water Adjustment on Controllers with SOLAR SYNC Dial Positon
  1. Turn the dial to the SOLAR SYNC position. The display will show the default Region setting on the left and the Water Adjustment setting on the right. The Region number will be flashing.
  2. Use the right arrow button to advance to the right to adjust the WATER ADJUSTMENT setting.
  3. Adjust the water adjustment number as needed by using the + and - buttons.

Seasonal Adjust too low: Increase the value on the Water Adjustment scale (10 is max). Once the setting is changed, the controller will immediately be updated with the new Seasonal Adjust %. Increase the Water Adjustment setting until the desired Seasonal Adjust % is shown. If you max out the Water Adjustment scale at 10 and still require more Seasonal Adjust, move down to the next lower Region (from Region 4 to 3, for example).

Seasonal Adjust too high: Decrease the value on the Water Adjustment scale (default setting is 5). Once the setting is changed, the controller will immediately be updated with the new Seasonal Adjust %. Decrease the Water Adjustment setting until the desired Seasonal Adjust % is shown. If you minimize the Water Adjustment scale down to 1 and still require a reduction in Seasonal Adjust, move up the next Region (from Region 2 to 3, for example).

NOTE: If an individual zone is “wetter” or “drier” than the rest of the system, simply increase or decrease the amount of run time on the controller.

Changing Water Adjustment on Controllers with SOLAR SYNC Module

  1. On the Solar Sync module, press and release the right arrow button. The Icon will be flashing above TIME.
  2. Press and release the right arrow button until the icon flashes above WATER.
  3. Press the + or - buttons to change the Water Adjustment.
  4. Press the right arrow button one more time and the Time of Day will Display on the Solar Sync module.

Selecting Solar Sync Region and Water Adjustment

For accurate Solar Sync measurements, the controller needs to be programmed for the average peak season ET for your region.

Use the following table for choosing your region. You can use methods A, B or C to help you choose which region is best for your area.:

  • A - Based upon the ET of your region using the average July ET or peak summer ET (inches/mm per day). This is the preferred option when selecting your region.
  • B - Based upon the temperature for your region using the average July or the driest month high temperature (not the highest temperature for July).
  • C - Based upon the general description of your region.

REGION 1

  • A - If the average July ET is < 0.17" (4.3 mm) per day
  • B - If the average temperature for July is 65°–75° (18°C – 24°C)
  • C - U.S. Northern States / Coastal Regions

REGION 2

  • A - If the average July ET is 0.18" – 0.23" (4.6 mm – 5.8 mm) per day
  • B - If the average temperature for July is 75° – 85° (24°C – 29°C)
  • C - Mountains / U.S. Northern Inland States

REGION 3

  • A - If the average July ET is 0.24" – 0.29" (6.1 mm – 7.4 mm) per day
  • B - If the average temperature for July is 85° – 95° (29°C – 35°C)
  • C - U.S. Southern States / Inland/High Desert

REGION 4

  • A - If the average July ET is > 0.30" (7.6 mm) per day
  • B - If the average temperature for July is 95° – 105° (35°C – 41°C)
  • C - Deserts

* For Southern hemisphere locations, use the month of January.

 Water Adjustment Setting

The Water Adjustment is a 1 to 10 scale that allows for easy adjustment of the Seasonal Adjust value from the Solar Sync ET Sensor. Upon installation of the Solar Sync ET Sensor, it is recommended that the Water Adjustment setting stay at the default value of 5. However, after installation, if you find that the seasonal adjust value is lower or higher than expected; the Water Adjustment value can be modified to modify the Seasonal Adjust output value.
