Human Resources

HR employees are the ambassadors of our corporate values, and it is our role to ensure Hunter’s actions are in alignment with those values.

Tamara Furman Vice President, Human Resources

Hunter revised its corporate mission and values in 2009. To highlight their importance, Human Resources (HR) included a section on mission and values in our yearly performance appraisals. Additionally, all new employees learn about our mission and values during orientation.

Talent Acquisition

Hunter is one of the largest employers in North County San Diego with a history of good corporate citizenship and a positive corporate culture. HR, in collaboration with Marketing, is working to build our employment brand by sharing our successes, showcasing the employee experience, and letting the public know what we are doing to contribute to communities where we are located. This will enhance our ability to attract top talent that fits our corporate culture and enable us to continue to grow our business and gain market share.

Today’s top talent prefers to work for companies that have a mission beyond profits. They want to contribute to a corporate agenda that coincides with their values and extends beyond the four walls of the work environment.

The HR department is launching Hunter’s Management System Training Program to elevate the quality of our leaders. Hunter has set a goal to increase Leadership and Management training of supervisors to 8 hours/year by 2014. Improving managers' skills and developing them into leaders is essential as our organization continues to grow.

Mexico Human Resources

The Mexico facility has a Human Resources team of six employees dedicated to the unique needs of this location. Employee health and wellness is an important focus. Employees and their families have free access to an on-site doctor who is available daily. Biometric screenings, immunizations, and health education aimed at disease prevention are also offered to employees and families at no cost. Subsidized lunches with healthy options are also included as a wellness benefit for all employees. During 2013, Hunter Mexico began preparing for future expansion, focusing on three key areas: recruitment, retention, and employee development.

Talent Acquisition

In 2013, human resources hired more than 100 new assembly employees for the 2014 expansion. With just three days between receiving the job requisition and the hiring date, the majority of employees were referred by current Hunter employees.

Thanks to the Hunter reputation in the area, we have not had a shortage of candidates.

The family atmosphere has resulted in a very high employee retention rate with just 2% turnover. Future initiatives include employee recognition programs for perfect attendance and seniority.

Employee Development Program

Employee training exists across all areas: orientation, safety, employee development, and ISO 9001 Quality management. Training methods include a digital kiosk pilot program. Work topics are taught using visual aids, signage, and video loops. At the computer kiosk, employees take tests on the visual materials instead of using traditional classroom methods of learning. Human Resources will evaluate the effectiveness of this pilot program in the coming months.

Recognizing that a lack of education can prevent employees from realizing their full potential in life, Hunter Mexico implemented an employee education program. The program helps employees complete their grade school, junior high, and high school educations by providing tutoring services on site before and after work. Once the tutoring sessions are complete, employees participate in the appropriate tests to receive their diplomas.
