Basis of calculations, data collection techniques, assumptions, projections, definitions and notes are stated in alignment with the GRI 3.1 guidelines.

General Information

  • All units are English except for Metric Tons of CO2e.
  • Data was collected on a monthly basis unless otherwise noted

(1) Climate Change & Energy

Indirect Energy Use – 23,676 mWh (2013), 22,197 mWh (2012)

  • Electricity reported in mWh collected in kWh. Conversion factor – 0.001 MWh/KWh

Direct Energy Use – 24,117 mWh (2013), 24,016 mWh (2012)

(2) Water Use & Biodiversity

Sources of Water

  • Vallecitos VWD receives 100% of its water from San Diego County Water Authority (SDCWA)
  • SDCWA receives 63% of its water from Colorado River water,  20% from Sacramento San Joaquin Delta water, and 17% rest from local supplies

Biodiversity

  • The creek basin is distinguished from arid surroundings by a shallow water table with abundant springs. Generally, the native soils are of a severely erodible character. From H20 Future’s 2010 Water Use assessment
  • The San Diego Regional Water Quality Control Board lists the San Marcos Creek and Lake San Marcos, an impoundment of the creek, as impaired bodies. See City of San Marcos
  • The Batiquitos Lagoon, the creek's drainage basin, is an ecological reserve. California Department of Fish and Wildlife  
  • Tijuana River National Estuarine Research Reserve, is listed as one of 21 wetlands of international importance by the Ramsar Convention see (RAMSAR)

(3) Waste

  • Definition: Zero Waste certification requires that 90% of any material that does not end up in our product is diverted from the landfill. Zero Waste International Alliance
